Graduate Program

Historically, the primary purpose of the Master of Science (M.S.) in Visual Arts Education program has been to serve currently employed, area art teachers who are required to complete a Master's degree for professional teaching certification in New York State. The program has also served students who wish to obtain a Master's degree in preparation for doctoral study.

In response to student interest, the Art Education Program has revised the programs to shift the majority of course work to two consecutive summers, and to alter the content of the program to increase credit hours in studio and theory/criticism. There is an emphasis on interdisciplinary studio work and collaboration. With a core of overlapping studio courses, students are free to choose the program that is most appropriate for their professional goals.

The summer-intensive Master of Science (M.S.) in Visual Arts Education has been developed in collaboration with Art Studio, which is concurrently augmenting the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Studio Art Program with an interdisciplinary emphasis.
