As a student in the Art Department at SUNY New Paltz you will have the opportunity to choose from a number of art disciplines for studio and lecture classes as well as seminars, or as a major area of study. These areas of study are divided into specific programs with professional faculty, unique curriculums and designated facilities. All students entering the Art Department as freshman will first go through a Foundations program which will orient the student to the Art Department and help them develop fundamental skills necessary to move to the next step. At the Undergraduate level you may decide to concentrate in a particular program or to take an interdisciplinary approach. Transfer students should review the Admissions page to determine requirements. All transfers come in first as a visual arts major (BS or BA). Once in the Art Department they may then apply to the particular area of interest in the BFA program or remain in the BA or BS program. We offer a number of degree programs to accommodate your decision. Please read the Overview for further information on degrees offered as well as the programs listed below.
