Career HistoryJoan Barker is an award-winning artist living in New York’s Hudson River Valley. Her photographs and paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the country and overseas. Her one-person shows include O K Harris in NYC, Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, NY and Friends of Photography in San Francisco. Internationally, Joan’s work has been included in exhibits at the Photographers’ Gallery in London, Photohozos in Athens and the Internationale Fotoage Herten in Germany. Her group exhibitions include the Lana Santorelli Gallery, NYC; Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, NY; Cooper Union, NYC; the California Museum of Photography in Riverside, CA; and Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, New Paltz, NY and CPW, Woodstock, NY. Joan’s photographs are also included in numerous collections such as at The Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, AZ, and the New York Public Library in NYC and The Center for Photography at Woodstock. She is the recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Artists’ Fellowship, The Village Voice Photography Grant and two Center for Photography at Woodstock Fellowships. Joan’s photographs for The Fresh Air Fund have been featured in The New York Times for over twenty years. Joan completed her MFA in photography at the State University of New York at New Paltz where she has been teaching for more than fifteen years.
