All applicants to the New Paltz art program are required to submit a portfolio of work directly to the Art Department concurrently with or after application to the college itself. Early submission of portfolios is strongly encouraged. Students entering the art program are placed according to the strengths of their artistic capabilities, as demonstrated by the proficiency and promise of work included in portfolios as well as their grade point average. The Freshmen* and Transfer* portfolios each have specific requirements.

Review of all graduate applications for Fall admissions will begin on February 15th. Early applications will be given first consideration.

Requirements for MFA and MA Portfolio

  1. 20 Slides, labeled indicating name, title, medium, size and date. This may include details and/or multiple views of works. CD or video also accepted, contact particular program
  2. Letter of intent, 1-2pages
  3. Slide Sheet
  4. Complete application
  5. Resume
