Spencer Brown and Gianna Persico

I really enjoyed my time with the Staten Island Yankees this summer, it was an invaluable learning experience. One of the goals of my internship was to learn how a professional baseball team’s front office operates. I learned how all the different departments; Marketing/Promotions, Ticket Sales, Baseball Operations, Sponsorship, and Finance, coexist together to create a great product. The uniqueness of minor league baseball is, most departments work with one another directly since it is a much smaller staff compared to a major league Front Office. Having the opportunity to gain experience in all the different departments was an added bonus that gave me the perspective to pursue a career in baseball analytics if I work with baseball. I was a Ticket Operations intern and my duties included, ticket sales, learning the TicketReturn ticketing system, box office hours before games, and planning and marketing a select neighborhood night in the local community.

My neighborhood night was centered around a fundraiser I organized to raise money for the medical bills of a local girl battling cancer in my town. I sold out an entire section of the stadium raising $910 for her treatment. I also worked with the promotions staff to have her throw out the first pitch and presented her with a giant check on the field. It was a rewarding experience giving back to my community and gaining insight from all of the Staten Island Yankees staff.
