Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Alumni E-mail Service?
A: The alumni e-mail service provides you with a full e-mail address (and access to a calendar and other applications). This address is an @alumni.newpaltz.edu address. The service is provided through Google Apps. You can choose to use it like a regular e-mail address, or have it forwarded to another e-mail address you currently have.

Q: Will this forward mail sent to my existing @newpaltz.edu address?
A: No - the alumni forwarding address will not forward mail sent to your @newpaltz.edu address, only mail sent to the new @alumni.newpaltz.edu address. Your @newpaltz.edu address will only work while you are a current student, and for approximately one semester after your last course ends.

Q: If it doesn't forward mail sent to my current address, why would I want it?
A: The alumni forwarding address system was setup for many reasons - most of which were at the request of alumni. Many Alumni have asked for an address which ties them to the college (and shows that they are an alumni) even after they graduate. The address is also a great one to put on a resume since it instantly shows you as an alumni of SUNY New Paltz. Also - some sites require, or have required in the past, a .edu e-mail address, in order to sign up. The major reason though is so that you can have one address that you never have to change again if you don't want to. You can have your alumni mail forwarded to your new school, or your new job, or anywhere else and change it on your own anytime - without having to let people know of a new e-mail address (as long as they are already using the @alumni.newpaltz.edu address).

Q: How do I sign up?
A: RECENT GRADUATES (or those graduating in the next few months): Log in to my.newpaltz.edu and click on the Student Services Tab, then click "Computer Services", then choose "Alumni E-Mail Address."
A: ALUMNI: Log in to my.newpaltz.edu and click on the Alumni tab, then on "Alumni Forwarding Address". If you do not already have access to my.newpaltz.edu, fill out the account request form at the Alumni Log in Request Page. After that - use my.newpaltz.edu to sign up for the account.

Q: It says I'm not eligible for the address - what do I do?
A: Most of the time when someone sees this message, it is because they have signed up for the address previously and don't recall doing so. If this is the case, you can login to your alumni forwarding account and check/change your forwarding address (see the next question for more information). To find out for sure, e-mail sysadmin@newpaltz.edu with your full name, and your campus e-mail address (or year of graduation if you are an alumni) and we'll be happy to help you out.

Q: How do I log in to check my mail?
A: Go to: https://www.google.com/a/alumni.newpaltz.edu.
Please note: Its a somewhat long address so we recommend that you bookmark it or add it to your favorites in your web browser.

Q: How do I forward my alumni mail to another e-mail account?
A: After logging into the e-mail account, click on "Settings" at the top right, then on the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" link. You can setup a forwarding address on this page (and either keep a copy of the mail on the alumni account, or set it to be deleted locally.

Q: I have an account but I forgot my password? How do I get in?
A: Email sysadmin@newpaltz.edu with the following information:

  • Your full name
  • Your alumni e-mail address
  • Your daytime phone number

For security reasons, we must receive this password reset request from an e-mail address we already have on file for you. Otherwise we may need to call you for verification.
