Introduction to 3D Printing

This class will serve as an introduction to the 3D printing processes with a focus on the FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) method of printing. Students will get an overview of the various 3D print processes (FDM, SLA, SLS) and an in depth discussion of FDM, its strengths, and weaknesses. Students will learn about the major file formats, where to locate files, and how to set up files in Makerbot Desktop for submission to the Innovation Center Array. No prerequisites.

Course #1 – Introduction to 3D Printing - Dates TBD

Intro to 3D CAD Modeling

This class will serve as an introduction to 3D CAD (computer-aided design) modeling using the free, web-based program TinkerCAD. Knowledge of 3D CAD is essential in taking full advantage of 3D printing technology. With a knowledge of CAD, you can start designing your own objects whether it's a machine part or a work of art. This class will give you a basic understanding of how CAD programs work and let you begin to create. THE INTRODUCTION TO 3D PRINTING CLASS IS A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITE.
