Susan Lehrer

Susan Lehrer received her BA from the University of Chicago and PhD from SUNY-Binghamton. Her expertise is in the area of women and equality under the law, and social policy affecting women, work and family, poverty & welfare, and academic freedom. Her published work includes the book Origins of Protective Labor Legislation for Women 1905-1925 and many articles. She has lectured widely on American social policy and women, including in Freiburg, Germany and Utrecht, The Netherlands. She also participated in the United Nations Conference on Women in Beijing, 1995. Dr. Lehrer taught in the Women’s Studies Program and served as the graduate program coordinator for the Department of Sociology. While no longer teaching classes, Dr. Lehrer is active in the United University Professions (the faculty/professional union for SUNY) at the campus and statewide level, and currently does photography for community and environmental organizations.
Harold Jacobs

Harold Jacobs received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, where he was appointed Acting Assistant Professor of Sociology from 1969-1971. He taught sociology at SUNY New Paltz from 1971 to 2002, when he retired as Professor Emeritus. He received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1974-1975 and served as a past Chair of the Sociology Department and Director of its Concentration in Human Services. He has published extensively on the New Left, including a book on the Weather Underground. He specializes in social movements, political sociology, social psychology, and sociological theory. From 2002 to 2008, Hal taught literature, social theory and philosophy in the New Paltz College Honors Program. He presently teaches "Great Books" classes at the University of California, Riverside campus extension in Palm Desert, CA.
